  6.         Welcome to the Pro-Football Demo disk.
  7.  
  8.         There is little need for a User-Guide with this program,
  9.         as every aspect of the program is covered in the detailed
  10.         help facility. However, there are several things that you
  11.         need to know in order to use Pro-Football to it's full
  12.         potential - this document tells you those things ...

  16.         * Introduction *

  19.         If you've used a football prediction system on your Amiga
  20.         before, you're probably filled with dread and doubt at
  21.         the moment. Relax!
  22.  
  23.         The reason I've written Pro-Football is that I know that
  24.         feeling only too well - all of the ones I could find were
  25.         difficult to use, or were VERY time consuming, or just
  26.         didn't do the job they were meant to do!

  28.         From the start, Pro-Football was to be different from the
  29.         rest ... I'm very pleased with the result - I hope you are
  30.         too!

  34.         * Unusual Features *
  35.         ********************

  37.         Many features are as you would expect - there are some
  38.         however that are quite unique, and others that appear to be
  39.         missing ...

  41.         >> Where are the league tables?  Inside your Amiga!
  42.            It occured to me that whilst league tables are great for
  43.            seeing how your favourite team is doing, they aren't
  44.            much cop when it comes to prediction - so why bother
  45.            using the standard system at all? Pro-Football uses a
  46.            completely custom built points system internally. These
  47.            tables aren't visible to the user though - the idea of
  48.            a prediction tool is to let the computer worry about
  49.            things like that - if you want to see the tables, buy a
  50.            newspaper!

  52.         >> Speedy entry! Entering fixture lists into a football
  53.            predictor is a very time consuming business - until now!
  54.            Pro-Football lets you do it in minutes.

  56.         >> Useable Predictions! Everything is set up to make life
  57.            easier for you. Predictions are presented in a way that
  58.            fits in with both pools and fixed odds betting.
  59.  
  60.         >> Accurate Predictions! Obviously a computer cannot take
  61.            into account factors such as weather, injuries,
  62.            players personal problems etc, but Pro-Football does
  63.            look at as many factors as possible.
  64.            In fact each match is assessed 4 times, each using a
  65.            different method to ensure maximum success.

  69.         >> Why aren't bookies odds included in the calculations?
  70.            Involving the would make it easier to make predictions,
  71.            but they wouldn't be genuine independant opinions.
  72.            The way things are, if a match is predicted to be an away
  73.            win AND the odds offered reflect this, then you know that
  74.            Pro-Football is probably correct. If on the other hand,
  75.            there is a large difference (eg: Pro-Football says AWAY,
  76.            but the odds suggest HOME) then there could be cause for
  77.            caution. One point to remember is that a winner at 5-4 is
  78.            better than a 10-1 loser!

  81.         features as you progress.

  85.         * Getting Started *

  88.         Make a backup copy! See your Workbench manual if you are
  89.         unsure on how to do this.

  91.         Pro-Football will run automatically when the computer is
  92.         switched on or reboot with the Pro-Football disk in the
  93.         drive. Please note that the disk should be left
  94.         Write-Enabled (the little plastic slider on the disk in
  95.         the closed position), otherwise the program won't work
  96.         properly.

  98.         This demo version is not hard-drive installable, although
  99.         the full version is.

  102.         * The Prediction Process *

  105.         Pro-Football is a radically different product - and as such,
  106.         you need to forget what you already know about prediction
  107.         programs, and get into the Pro-Football way of thinking.
  108.  
  109.         Detailed information on how you do everything is included in
  110.         the Help pages throughout the program, so I think the best
  111.         thing to do now is to give a rough over-view of the various
  112.         steps that you will be taking. I'll do this by explaining
  113.         what I've been doing, and when each week ...

  115.         MONDAY - Get Mid-Week, Weekend and Pools betting coupons
  116.                  from bookies.
  117.  
  118.                  Entered details of matches taking place during
  119.                  the week - the details are stored in similar
  120.                  lists to those on the slips - A Main List
  121.                  (Long List), and several Sub-Lists (Sections
  122.                  list, Mini Sections etc).

  124.                  It's then possible to ask for any type of
  125.                  prediction you want. In this example I requested ..
  126.  
  127.                    5 best draws on the long list.
  128.                    Best prediction (1,2 or X) from each section
  129.                    of the Mini-Sections List.
  130.                    Best home in each section of the Sections List.

  132.                  It's then sit back & wait time!

  134.         WEDNESDAY - All mid-week matches had been played - entered
  135.                  results from teletext.
  136.  
  137.                  Pro-Football then updates it's statistics.

  139.                  I then started again, using weekend coupons,
  140.                  except this time, one of the sub-lists was the
  141.                  Pools list - obviously in this case, the prediction
  142.                  you ask for is the list of likely draws on the
  143.                  pools list.

  145.         SUNDAY - Entered results from Saturday & Sunday.

  147.         MONDAY - Deja Vu! Back to the beginning.
  148.  
  149.         Of course not everyone will want to make that many
  150.         predictions, but remember - the more results you can provide
  151.         the more accurate the predictions will be.

  153.         Pro-Football handles non-league games as well as it does
  154.         league ones, and the statistical info held is geared up
  155.         for this - so don't worry about using Pro-Football for
  156.         cup-ties etc.

  160.         * It's Easy! *

  163.         Whenever a menu is displayed on screen, help is only a
  164.         keypress away - just press your HELP key. The words
  165.         HELP AVAILABLE will be displayed on screen to remind you
  166.         that the information exists. The help pages shown will be
  167.         relevant to the section of the program that you are
  168.         entering. The instructions provided in the HELP pages are
  169.         actually for the full version of Pro-Football, but
  170.         most of it also applies to the demo.

  172.         Some of the instructions may seem a little on the complex
  173.         side - rest assured, the reality isn't that bad!
  174.         Once you've used Pro-Football, it'll all fall into place!
  175.  
  176.         If it doesn't, then don't worry - as a registered user of
  177.         the program, you are entitled to unlimited help.

  179.         Simply write, describing in detail what it is that you are
  180.         unsure of, and I'll do my best to help by return of post.
